About PDFThis

A free tool that turns document photos into clean PDFs.

Why it exists

You snap a photo of a receipt, a form, a handwritten note. You want to send it to someone, file it, or print it later. What you have is a JPEG with a coffee table in the background, your fingers in the corner, and shadows across the page. What you want is a clean PDF that looks like it came out of a scanner.

That's the whole job. No accounts, no upsells, no watermark on the PDF. Drop in the photo, get the PDF.

How the cleanup works

For each image you upload, PDFThis runs an adaptive thresholding pass that flattens uneven lighting and shadows. In B&W mode the page comes out as crisp black ink on white paper — the look most people associate with "a scan". In grayscale and color modes, shadows are removed but tones are preserved, which is what you want for photos with highlighter, stamps, or color charts.

The cleaned image is then placed onto a real Letter or A4 page so the resulting PDF prints at the size you'd expect.

Privacy

Your files are never stored on our servers. Each upload is held in memory just long enough to produce the PDF, returned to your browser as the response, and then discarded. Nothing is written to disk, nothing is shared, nothing is used to train anything. See the Privacy Policy for the long version.

Tips for the best results

The cleaner the input, the cleaner the output. A few things help:

  • Lay the document flat on a contrasting surface.
  • Shoot from directly above — not at an angle.
  • Get enough light, avoid harsh single-source shadows.
  • Fill the frame with the document, with a small margin around.
  • For multi-page documents, take one photo per page in order.
